Gold Eugene Writes On 'The Strength Of A Mother' | A Must Read

Such a wonderful peice written by Gold Eugene. The poet who hails from Rivers State, has unraveled her dexterity in writing a thought provoking poem she titles "The Strength Of A Mother". This piece which happen to be her first online published poem has two words that ordinarily could prove difficult to comprehend. These words are, "Caramel and Ebony".

According to Gold Eugene, she stated vividly that 'Caramel' represents the smooth yellowish complexion of an African woman while 'Ebony' the jet black colour of the beautiful one.

N/B: This poem requires a diligent approach for proper comprehension.

The Strength Of A Mother!

Caramel

Ebony

With the fish glow of a mermaid

Bearing down precious stones

The moon her hand maid

The sun attend her

Rubies are afraid to breathe in the sunlight cause of her illumination

She welds the power to make a vegetable into a knight in shining armour

She has the fire to warm the coldest of hearts

She is an epitome of grace

She adjusts to the violent kicks of her foetus

She takes on back breaking labour for the honour of her household

Forsaking her looks

She rather be in rags to care for her children

She is strong

Yet soft

At times her foetus despises her

Yet she is able to bring him to suck at her breast

She is called all names less befitting

Yet able to conquer her world

She makes a whole out of nothing

As I look at the shrunken hands of my Mama now I see beauty

She is brave

She is African

She is beautiful
