Music Is Definitely A Venture That Is Making A Huge Profit When Done The Right Way - A Nigerian Based Business Consultant

As it is often said, knowledge is power. But knowledge becomes powerless when it is not put into meaningful use. In other words, the right application of knowledge is what gives knowledge power and we call it wisdom. In the development of any individual, wisdom is as essential as the air we breathe. Every great institution in the universe is to a large extent, a product of wisdom and wisdom could be acquired through a large of knowledge.

With a volume of this mentality, I was moved to connect with this great woman. I must confess, she is a genius and a blessing to our Nation. Having found great favour in her sight, she took me like a younger brother and unveiled certain truths I never knew about branding. As a matter of fact, she however, taught me certain tactics that have placed my blog on the map of neighboring African Countries.

Having so great passion for what I do as a blogger, I thought it wise, aside our private discussion, to interview her. And my aim for this interview is to enlighten entertainers in particular, on what they need to know. I thought it best for artists, record label executives, etc, to benefit from this life transforming words from the Positive LIFE Coach, A Nigerian based business management consultant and professionalism trainer, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Chime.

The Interview!

May I meet you Ma'm?

I am Mrs Ifeyinwa Chime, I am a Positive LIFE Coach, Business Management Consultant and Professionalism Trainer, I help individuals and entrepreneurs achieve positive well-being through paid training, coaching, mentoring and business management consulting programs so that they can focus on creating and sustaining wealth. I also advise companies and small businesses.
I post on social media with the hashtag: ThePositiveProfessional.

As a business management consultant, what do you think could be the solution to the current financial crisis in the country today?

Thank you Tammy,

Firstly, I am not a financial analyst, however, I will state some observations and recommendations.

Most of Nigeria's financial crisis challenges in my opinion are mis- management of financial instruments. The Managers of the wealth and debts of Nigeria are probably thinking about short-term only and forgetting about long term financial management and investment decisions.

Let us look at the issue of healthcare in Nigeria. How many standard hospitals do we have with up to date modern facilities and equipment? When our beloved President was ill last year, we remember that he had to be taken care of medically abroad. Is that wealth or poverty in global terms? I think we (collectively as a nation) need to look at long-term needs more seriously as opposed to just short term needs in the country. If the powers that be take proper and professional stock of our finances, noting the mistakes of past and present administration, we would be better-equipped to handle financial crisis.

I have read severally that most globally recognised billionaires have the ability to find solutions to the challenges of humanity. Bill Gates is spending millions of dollars in search of different solutions. Larry Page and Sergey Brin innovated the internet, and Mark Zuckerberg created platforms for socialization. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak went all out to reduce the size of the computer as it was quite bulky. What problems are our leaders solving for our posterity? Let US NOT forget that the solution we seek for Nigeria is in our environment; the key to unlocking our prison is in our hands.

Please Ma, how enlightened are you about music business? It seem to be a venture that's making a huge profit these days.

Indeed the music business has continually evolved in Nigeria and globally from the 1950s when there were just a few solo singers and few bands too. From the 1980s through to the new millennium, we have seen an upsurge of different musicians of every kind of genre and category music. Music makes the world go round and GOOD music is definitely a venture that is making a huge profit when done the right way; as an enterprise.

Wow! Ma'm I just love what you said. You said, "The right way" as an enterprise. What right way and what enterprise?

For music making to be termed a venture/business, it has to be showcased professionally as an enterprise.

Irrespective of whether an artiste is a solo act/singer like 'Beyonce' or a group band like 'Westlife', it is important to have a professional process- the right way and a business presence in managing the affairs of the enterprise (money making). If this is not done at the initial stages, the musician/musicians are likely setting up for failure.

Having a "professional process", could you throw more light on that?

That is my secret 'sauce'/ 'recipe'. Clients pay to get the light. OK, you asked to throw more light. In essence, an artiste's professional process is the brand identity the artiste projects to the world and also it is knowing the level one is at professionally, seeking new frontiers for growth without compromising on the value one gives out to the audience.

That could mean having a defined brand is what helps an artist's enterprise his career?

In the music industry, there are so many voices and it is sometimes difficult to choose authentic music even when the music is from talented artistes.Hence, it is very important for a music artiste to have a defined brand; a professional outlook to one's career or band career

In enterprising one's career, think through this quote: ''Life is not discovery of fate; it is continuous creation of future, through choices of thoughts, feelings and actions in the present." - Sanjay Sahay. In essence, to progress in a music career, the artiste has to be very consistent with his/her defined brand. Seek to connect and collaborate with like- minded artistes with consistency in delivery.

When there is a consistent professional enterprise that is recognised by the audience, definitely a community will naturally follow and there would always be a fan base/ following for the artiste...

Most songs today do not pass any message across to the listeners again. Who do you think could be the cause, The artiste or the listener?

With regards to the messages in some songs these days, The artiste has the responsibility to inspire, teach and empower through their music. In certain cases, some songs do not promote anything positive. In fact some songs promote promiscuous lifestyle, and other vices. Such songs do not last the test of time. They may be a top hit for a week or two but after that, there is no lasting impact of the artiste's music. There are a lot of positive topics that could be taught using music. Song writers and music composers should take cognisance of this.

Please Ma'm what can you offer to upcoming artists that will be a driving force to fame as a consultant?

Business structure. I do not manage artistes. However, when an artiste pays for my business structure program, we map out a plan to enable wealth creation and sustainability.

Ok! Incase an artiste might think it wise to contact you, what possible means could that be?
